April 2015Dear Colleagues,We have some very exciting changes to look forward to in 2015. As some of you know, we have begun remodeling the Care Center Surgery Department in order to accommodate more cases and provide a higher-quality surgical experience for our patients, clients, and referring veterinarians. What you may not know is that we are also adding two important new services: Interventional Radiology and PetCure Oncology services.RENOVATIONSSome of the changes include:• The surgery department has been moved to a different part of the hospital to accommodate a larger volume of patients and improve flow• The recovery room will now be enclosed adjacent to the CCU for a quieter, more peaceful transition• We will be installing new surgical suction and gas evacuation hospital-wide, and new LED lights in ICU and surgery• A private surgical suite has been created for interventional procedures and emergency surgeries• The success of our Blood Bank created a need for its own spaceINTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGYWe’re proud to announce that we are launching a new Interventional Radiology Department to include internal medicine, surgery and cardiology. This service will allow us to offer your patients more minimally invasive options such as:• Pacemaker implantation• Balloon valvuloplasty for Pulmonic stenosis • Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA)• Heartworm extraction• Endourology• Subcutaneous Ureteral Bypass device (SUB) for ureteral obstructions in cats• Urethral stents for urethral neoplasia, strictures, or obstructive urethritis• Tracheal stents• Ureteral stents for ureteral obstruction in dogsAll interventional procedures are done at our Cincinnati location. Many of these procedures can be done on an outpatient basis, or with minimal hospitalization, resulting in fewer complications compared to traditional treatments.PETCURE ONCOLOGYLast but certainly not least, starting June 2015 we’ll be offering, in partnership with PetCure Oncology, one of the most exciting advances we’ve ever seen in veterinary cancer treatment. PetCure brings a technology widely lauded in human medicine to our companion animal patients - a phenomenal new way to treat cancer via radiosurgery, by delivering a precise dose of radiation with sub-millimeter accuracy anywhere in the body.Continued page 2
